SUCH A NICE PLACE is the result of the unique experience of Jay Ryan, an American who has been living in France for over forty years. A keen observer, reading the New York Times and Le Monde, devouring books and passionate about art and cooking, he presents through his songs short stories inspired by life, true urban legends. His view of society is tender, caustic, and deeply human. And when it comes to music, the septuagenarian is becoming increasingly electric, rebellious, and direct, as if his past close to CBGBs in the 1970s were resurfacing.

“That’s the problem with drinking, I thought, as I poured myself a drink. If something bad happens you drink in an attempt to forget; if something good happens you drink in order to celebrate; and if nothing happens you drink to make something happen.” Charles Bukowski – Women (1978)

Jay Ryan would like to thank José Jeanrot for putting up with him, Paul Bessone & Edith Gaudy for believing in him, Xavier Miclet and Véronique Lecardonnel for generously lodging him. Finally, he thanks Arnaud Bascuñana for all the great work he did on the album, as well as the band that played great.
